In an important move for transparency, Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai on Saturday officially launched the live streaming of the Bombay High Court’s proceedings.
From now on, hearings before five selected benches of the Bombay High Court will be live streamed for the public.
Benches Will Be Live Streamed:
The first five benches chosen for this new service are:
Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sandeep V Marne
Justice R P Mohite-Dere and Justice Dr Neela Kedar Gokhale
Justice M S Sonak and Justice Jitendra Shantilal Jain
Justice Ravindra V Ghuge and Justice M M Sathaye
Justice A S Gadkari and Justice Rajesh S Patil
Chief Justice Alok Aradhe had already announced earlier that technical work was underway to make live streaming possible. Now, with CJI Gavai’s inauguration, this plan has become a reality.
More Digital Facilities for the Court:
Along with live streaming, CJI Gavai also launched free WiFi and internet services for the High Court premises. This will help lawyers, litigants, and visitors stay connected and work better.
Other Courts Already Streaming:
Bombay High Court joins a growing list of courts across India that live stream their proceedings. High Courts of Gujarat, Karnataka, Gauhati, Calcutta, Telangana, Orissa and some others already stream their hearings on YouTube.
Some High Courts also allow public access to hybrid court links without restrictions, making court hearings even more accessible.
This step by the Bombay High Court is a big push towards an open and transparent justice system. Citizens can now directly watch how the court works, which will help build trust in the judiciary.
