Big Reshuffle: Centre Clears Transfer of Four High Court Chief Justices


In a major move, the Union Government on Monday (July 14, 2025) approved the transfer of Chief Justices of Rajasthan, Tripura, Jharkhand, and Madras High Courts. These changes were based on the recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium on May 28.


Transfers of Chief Justices:


As per the official notification issued:


  • Justice KR Shriram, who is currently the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, has been transferred to the Rajasthan High Court.

  • Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, has been transferred to the Madras High Court.

  • Justice MS Ramachandra Rao, Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, has been transferred to the Tripura High Court.

  • Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, has been transferred to the Telangana High Court.


These transfers are part of the judicial administration process to ensure a balanced and efficient functioning of High Courts across the country.


New Chief Justices Appointed:


In addition to these transfers, the Centre also cleared appointments of new Chief Justices for:

  • Madhya Pradesh High Court

  • Karnataka High Court

  • Gauhati High Court

  • Patna High Court

  • Jharkhand High Court


The names of the newly appointed Chief Justices are expected to be announced soon.
